Change stored phone number

The user guides linked here help business mobile phone users to change the number they have registered with an online service. This is necessary, for example, if the business mobile number has been ported to a private contract and the business mobile phone has been given a new number.

In many online services, a mobile phone number must be stored. This applies to mobile phone signatures, messengers (iMessage, WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram), online banking or mobile phone parking. The phone number is needed for verification codes or TAN text messages or serves as a method for account recovery in case of password loss. Many two-factor authentication services also offer text message as a method.

 Note

The list of services is not complete. Check for yourself over a longer period of time which services communicate with you via text message to your mobile phone number. It is recommended to change the stored phone number as long as you can still access the previous phone number and thus receive text messages.

The ZID takes no responsibility for the topicality and correctness of the linked user guides.

Mobile phone signature (Handysignatur)

If you still have your old SIM card and can receive text/TAN messages with it, you can use it to request a new mobile phone signature:

  1. Open handy-signatur.at and click Activate Handy-Signatur now! (Jetzt Handy-Signatur aktivieren!)
  2. On the next page, scroll down and click Activation with Citizen Card (Aktivierung mit Bürgerkarte oder Handy-Signatur)

Technically, not only the number is exchanged, but a new mobile phone signature is generated for the new phone number. All previously signed documents remain valid and you can also use the same signature password again.

Online banking

Most Austrian banks have already switched text message TAN procedures to Push-TAN via app or, for non-smartphone users, to CardTAN (small code generator in credit card format) or similar procedures.
Exceptions:

  • BAWAG/PSK: See FAQ Wie kann ich meine Telefonnummer ändern (How can I change my phone number) in ServicesPersönliche Daten (Services Personal Data) (in German)
  • easybank: See FAQ mobileTAN in EBANKING & APPZeichnungsverfahren (signature process) (in German)

If the phone number is stored as a phone contact at your bank, please inform your bank advisor.

Credit card

Most credit card providers have introduced identity verification procedures for online payments (such as Verified by VISA, Mastercard Identity Check). In addition to confirming your identity via app, you can also use a TAN or PIN code sent by text message.

If you have left your phone number with your credit card provider, this can sometimes be changed via an associated app, but often only with an online or PDF form. For more information, please contact your credit card provider or the bank from which you received your card.

Mobile phone parking

  1. In the customer portal of handyparken.at click Meine Daten (My details).
  2. Then click on the pencil symbol next to the phone number under the item Kontodaten (Account data).
  3. Type in a new phone number and click TAN zusenden (Send TAN).
  4. Enter the 5 digit TAN you have received via text message and click Speichern (Save).

If you use mobile payment via paybox for mobile parking, you must also inform paybox of your change of number in order to link your new number to mobile payment. To do this, use the paybox service line on 05 05 205 05 (Monday to Friday 8:00 to 18:00) or the paybox website.
