Starting this semester, the clear tile view makes course navigation easier, the Moodle Makers Community creates space for exchange and shared ideas, and Moodle Preview allows you to try out upcoming features.
With the new tile format, Moodle courses are displayed as a graphical grid view. Each course section appears as a separate tile that opens when clicked. This keeps the interface clear, loads content faster, and eliminates the need for long scrolling. The format makes navigation much more pleasant, especially on mobile endpoint devices.

The new Moodle Makers Community exchange format offers the Moodle community at the University of Vienna a lively space for exchange, inspiration and joint development. It is aimed at anyone who wants to use Moodle in a creative, innovative and didactically sound way. The format is supported by the Digital Teaching (Centre for Teaching and Learning) and E-learning (ZID) teams. They combine their didactic and technical expertise to give teachers and everyone involved in teaching new ideas and actively support the further development of the learning platform.
The first hybrid meeting took place at the beginning of December 2025 – with high participation and an open, curious and energetic atmosphere. As a flexible modular system, Moodle offers a wide range of possibilities for structuring teaching in an interactive and creative way. A committed community that shares experiences and learns from each other is a key factor for success.
The next meeting of the Moodle Makers Community will take place on 6 May 2026 from 9:45–12:00, followed by a networking phase until 13:00.

Moodle Preview gives all users the opportunity to explore the learning platform's diverse functions at their own pace and stay ahead of upcoming developments. You will gain insights into new features, design adjustments and future versions of Moodle – ideal for exploring changes at an early stage.
In a personal test course, you can realistically simulate different teaching and learning scenarios, try out activities and materials, or use the course for personal purposes. This allows you to explore Moodle flexibly without affecting real courses.
To further improve the learning platform, we welcome your feedback directly in Moodle Preview. Your feedback will help us tailor Moodle to the needs of the University of Vienna.
