Network socket

Employees and students of the University of Vienna can connect to the internet by cable via labelled data sockets. You can find these sockets in almost all lecture halls and many libraries of the University of Vienna. They are labelled with a sticker and/or a coloured dot.

Connecting to the internet

You require an active student or employee u:account and the eduroam password to log in. Your computer must have a network card. Please use a suitable patch cable.

  1. Connect your computer by plugging the cable into the data socket.
  2. Open a browser and enter any web address that begins with http (not with https). You will be automatically redirected to the log-in page. You can only access the log-in page, if your computer is plugged into a data socket.
  3. Enter your userID and the eduroam password. You can check your eduroam password under My u:account (log-in required).

Your computer is now connected to the internet.

Disconnecting from the internet

Log in via the log-in page to prevent fraudulent use of your userID. You can only access the log-in page, if your computer is plugged in at a network socket.
