There is currently a high number of fraudulent calls in all mobile phone networks, allegedly in the name of Amazon or PayPal. Both business phones and private mobile phones from all providers are affected.
You can read more about the current wave of fraudulent calls at Watchlist Internet (in German). There you will also find tips on how to protect yourself.
The ZID also recommends:
- Check the plausibility of the call.
- Do not allow yourself to be pressured into action.
- Never give out access data or bank details over the phone.
- Do not install any software mentioned by the caller.
- If you fear that fraudsters know your access data for Amazon, PayPal or your bank account, change your password immediately.
- Activate multi-factor authentication wherever possible.
