ZID = Service

Information and communication technology forms an essential part of administration, research, teaching and studying today. Almost all areas feel the impact of the digital transformation and are shaped by it.
As the central IT service centre, it is our responsibility to support the University of Vienna in positioning and developing itself optimally in a highly dynamic IT environment. Using a stable and state-of-the-art IT infrastructure as well as a wide range of IT services, we accompany our University from the digital present into the digital future.

Digitisation is not an end in itself. Instead, it is a means to an end. IT services aim at providing the best possible support to users in the fulfilment of their daily tasks.
Our focus is on the user. We develop IT solutions that are customised to the needs and demands of our users. It is one of our key objectives that our services achieve high user satisfaction. Therefore, we carry out customer satisfaction surveys on a regular basis.

The more areas IT pervades and the more functions it fulfils, the more complex it gets. The support of complex IT landscapes requires competent experts and cooperation between all areas of expertise.
The ZID has more than 200 employees from a wide range of different technical fields. Whether network engineers, software engineers or support employees – their competence, subject-specific know-how and willingness to continue learning help us to provide IT services and IT support of the highest quality.

The IT sector is future-oriented and advances rapidly, more so than any other sector. This requires the willingness to venture into new areas and use creativity and innovation to further develop.

No matter how unique and diverse we are – there is one thing that unites us at the ZID: We all live and love IT. With our enthusiasm and passion for the digital world, we develop, implement and support a portfolio of more than 400 services.
Our services range from the development and provision of LAN, Wi-Fi, telephony and computer rooms, to the deployment of software and workplace computers, the provision of IT courses, the maintenance of technological equipment for e-learning and streaming and the operation of the Austrian Academic Computer Network (ACOnet).
