AI software – u:ai

u:ai is an artificial intelligence platform specifically developed for the academic environment and part of the AI services of the ZID.

With u:ai, employees of the University of Vienna can create and analyse texts, translate them into other languages, perform mathematical calculations and program code.

Using u:ai

Log in to the platform uai.univie.ac.at. To do so, you need an active u:account for employees.

u:ai currently offers 2 modules:

  • u:ai Chatbot: Enter text-based requests in the input field.
  • u:ai Document Analyzer: Upload documents and have them summarised or translated, have keywords or topics extracted, and have the grammar and spelling of the texts contained in them corrected.
The following file formats are currently allowed: PDF, DOCX, XLSX and PPTX, with a maximum of 50 MB and 300 pages.
  • u:ai Lab: Create individual templates for your requests in the chatbot and influence the scope and creativity of the answers with the advanced settings.

Requests can be made in different languages. Unless you have specified otherwise in the request, the output language is based on the user's input language.

As a text-based AI assistant, u:ai is currently not able to generate images or videos.

Costs

You have a credit balance of 20.00 euros available to you per month for making requests (prompts and file uploads) in u:ai. These costs are covered centrally. The current credit balance can be seen in the top right of the interface. If the monthly amount is used up, you will not be able to use u:ai until the following month.

The costs for individual requests depend on the length of the request and the response. Text entries cost less than file uploads. You can expect to pay around 0.01 euro for a short text request and up to 0.20 euros for a large file upload.

u:ai Chatbot settings

You can use the gear symbol to make the following settings:

  • Language models: Select the model you want. The more up to date it is, the more developed and therefore the more powerful and faster it is.
  • Creativity level: Choose how creative you want the answer to be. The following applies: 0 = conservative, 1 = very creative

You can clear the requests for the current session using the recycle bin icon.

 Notes

  • u:ai cannot answer any university-specific questions, as the software has not been trained with university data.
  • Do not use the answers and information provided by u:ai as your sole source. The answers provided by u:ai mai contain errors or inaccuracies. Always verify the information obtained from additional sources. You are responsible for the reflected use of the generated content.

Data protection

The University of Vienna provides the u:ai service in a manner that is compliant with data protection requirements, which means that it is permitted to process personal data using the service. In any case, no sensitive data within the meaning of Article 9 of the GDPR should be processed.

 Note

The AI software should be used in such a way that no personal data is processed, if possible. If this is not possible, anonymised data should be processed. If this is also not possible, the data minimisation principle must be observed even with clear data in such a way that only the data that is absolutely necessary is processed with the AI software.

u:ai makes it possible to interact with OpenAI's Global, LLC, 3180 18th St., San Francisco, CA 94110 (OpenAI for short) chatbot ChatGPT via a browser using the latest versions of the Large Language Models in the form of chats and other methods. The service is provided by ACOmarket itself on an Azure Tenant licensed to ACOmarket by Microsoft Ireland Operations Limited, One Microsoft Place, South County Business Park, Leopardstown, Dublin 18, D18 P521 Ireland. OpenAI only provides the model in this context. Thus, OpenAI does not process any personal data.
