DNS
DNS (Domain Name System) allows you to assign names such as univie.ac.at
to computer IP addresses on the internet. The following information is only important for employees who manage their computers in the data network of the University of Vienna themselves.
Configuring name servers
Domain names are managed in a decentralised way by means of name servers.
In most networks and the Wi-Fi of the University of Vienna, addresses of name servers are generated automatically via DHCP.
If you configure your PC manually in the data network of the University of Vienna, you require the following information for the primary and secondary DNS servers:
IPv4 | IPv6 | Host name |
---|---|---|
131.130.1.11 | 2001:62a:4:303::53 | nsr3.univie.ac.at |
131.130.1.12 | 2001:62a:4:304::53 | nsr4.univie.ac.at |
These servers resolve the names for a host (recursion).
