IT courses

The IT courses offered by the ZID are available for a small fee to students and employees of the University of Vienna. In addition, external participants can attend the courses under certain conditions. The ZID course offer ranges from courses on Office programs and special research software to social media and IT security.

The lecturers teaching on the IT courses are experienced external trainers or employees of the University of Vienna. For further information, please read the detailed description of the IT course of your choice in the course database.

Employees

IT courses by Human Resources Development

Employees of the University of Vienna have the opportunity to attend the IT courses offered by the ZID as well as the free IT courses offered by the Human Resources Development unit. These course offers are based on a cooperation between Human Resources Development and the ZID.

The course programme of Human Resources Development includes courses specifically targeted to the requirements of the University of Vienna, as well as courses from the public course programme. A prerequisite for participation during working hours is the approval from your superior.

Selecting an IT course

Please note the required previous knowledge specified in the detailed description of the IT course of your choice and make a realistic assessment of your previous knowledge.

Registering for an IT course

To register for an IT course, you require an active u:account for students or employees

Members of other Austrian universities as well as academic or research institutions also have the opportunity to register for IT courses at the ZID, provided that free places are available. To do so, they have to register for a new user account on ACOnet Open IdP

  1. You can preregister in the course database (in German) until the end of the registration period (14 days before the scheduled course date). After you have successfully preregistered, you will receive an e-mail with further information. Your registration for free courses is now complete.
  2. For a binding registration for fee-based courses, you first have to pay the course fee at the ZID Helpdesk in cash or via debit card. Please bring a student ID card or photo ID. If you have not paid the course fee within 14 days after preregistering, your preregistration will be deleted. After the end of the registration period (14 days before the scheduled course date), all preregistrations will be deleted.

The ZID is working on the implementation of an online payment system for course registrations.

Waiting list

Many courses have a limited number of places. If the maximum number of participants has been reached, you can ask to be put on the waiting list. You will be notified if a free place is available.  


Remaining available places

If remaining places are available after the end of the registration period (14 days before the scheduled course date), you can register for the course personally at the ZID Helpdesk. Please bring a student ID card or photo ID. In this case, you will have to pay for fee-based IT courses immediately in cash or via debit card.


Confirmation of participation

After having completed an IT course, all participants will receive a confirmation of participation.

Costs

Lectures are free of admission and publicly accessible.

Participants in public IT courses have to pay a course fee. You have to pay this fee at the ZID Helpdesk when you register for the course.

Cancellations, deregistration

If the number of registered people is too low by the end of the registration period (14 days before the scheduled course date), the IT course may be cancelled. All participants who have already registered will receive a notification via e-mail.

If you have already paid for an IT course and it is cancelled, or if you deregister from it before the end of the registration period, we can refund the course fee to any account within the EU. Please send an e-mail specifying the following details to the ZID Helpdesk no later than 4 weeks after the start of the course:

  • First and last name
  • Invoice number
  • Amount invoiced
  • Name of the account holder
  • IBAN

It may take up to two weeks until you receive the refund.

If you deregister from a course after the end of the registration period, you will have to pay 100 % of the course fee. You cannot transfer the fee to another IT course.
