Equipment

Projectors

All ZID Class Rooms are equipped with projectors, allowing you to project the screen of the teacher’s PC and – if desired – of a notebook onto the wall. You can switch back and forth between the stationary computer and your notebook. A user guide is available at the Class Room.

 Note

It takes a few minutes for the projector to warm up. Please avoid turning the projector on and off again too often, as this reduces the lifespan of the lamp.

Turn the projector off when you leave the room, unless the device is needed for a class right after yours.

Booking ZID Class Rooms

The contact persons of the StudiesServiceCenters are responsible for ZID Class Room bookings.

Regulations for the ZID Class Rooms at Oskar-Morgenstern-Platz

The Faculty of Business, Economics and Statistics and the Faculty of Mathematics have pre-booking rights. They apply

  • until 15 January for courses in the following summer semester
  • until 30 June for courses in the following winter semester

Please send your room request to the responsible contact persons at the StudiesServiceCenters or to Mag. Victor Dumitru, BA victor.dumitru@univie.ac.at, T: +43-1-4277-12758.

Regulations for ZID Class Room bookings

  • ZID Class Rooms should only be used for courses and exams during which it is absolutely essential that students can continuously use a computer. Please use other rooms for all other courses and exams.
  • Select a ZID Class Room according to the number of course participants.
  • Make your request in due time. As the same conditions apply to all StudiesServiceCenters, it is not possible to maintain a booking for the following semester. The StudiesServiceCenters are responsible for timely scheduling and bookings.
  • Please only pre-book rooms that you really need and cancel any bookings for rooms that you do not need as soon as possible.

 Note

The devices at the ZID Class Rooms are running continuously. Therefore, it can happen that a computer does not work properly for a short time. The ZID tries to solve problems quickly and exchange defective devices as soon as possible. Nevertheless, the ZID recommends booking a room with more available places than course participants.

Access

 MiFare key card

Lecturers need a MiFare key card to enter the ZID Class Rooms at Oskar-Morgenstern-Platz 1, 1090 Vienna. You can get the key card at the porter’s desk.

Electronic key – iButton

Lecturers require an electronic key (iButton) to enter the ZID Class Rooms at the following locations:

  • Schenkenstraße 8–10, 1010 Vienna
  • Campus of the University of Vienna, Spitalgasse 2, 1090 Vienna
  • Universitätszentrum Althanstraße, UZA 2, Althanstraße 14, 1090 Vienna

 Note

Request the iButton at least 10 days before the course starts via the form iButton beantragen (Requesting iButton).

Applicants will receive an e-mail when the iButton is ready to be picked up.

You can pick up and return the iButton at the porter in the NIG (Neues Institutsgebäude, Universitätsstraße 7, 1010 Vienna). Please note the opening hours of the buildings of the University of Vienna.

Extending the iButton validity

The iButton is valid for one semester. It is possible to extend the validity period, if you need the iButton again in the next semester.

Request the extension of your iButton using the form iButton beantragen (Requesting iButton). You will receive an e-mail notification from the ZID as soon as your iButton has been extended. Afterwards you have to update your iButton at one of the wall readers.

Updating the iButton

You can update your iButton at any wall reader of the electronic access control system.

Hold the iButton to the wall reader. It will be updated automatically. The LED flashes blue.

 Note

Hold the iButton to the wall reader until the LED stops flashing blue. If you remove the iButton before that, the update will not work.

When the update is complete, the wall reader checks the permission of the iButton for the room behind:

  • Green LED: The door unlocks.
  • Red LED: The door remains locked.

Both signals indicate that the update was successful and that you can open the ZID Class Rooms you booked as of now.
