Accessible work stations
Three accessible terminals with touchscreens are located in the computer rooms of the NIG (Neues Institutsgebäude, Universitätsstraße 7, 1010 Vienna, ground floor). Two terminals are located at Computer Room 1; one terminal is located at Computer Room 3. You can individually adjust the height at the touch of a button. The terminals offer the same functionalities and software applications as a common computer workstation, including NVDA ScreenReader.
There is one accessible work station with height-adjustable tables at the Fachbereichsbibliothek der Rechtswissenschaften (Juridicum) and the Fachbereichsbibliothek Bildungswissenschaften (Sensengasse 3a, 1090 Vienna).
Every PC in the Computer Rooms and ZID Class Rooms are equipped with accessibility functions of Windows 10. They can be activated via the button Erleichterte Bedienung ("Easy accessibility") at the log-in screen. Speakers for audio output are installed on every device. Moreover, all computers at the computer rooms with ZID computer rooms support are equipped with NVDA ScreenReader.
Software
The computers at the ZID computer rooms are equipped with the operating system Windows 10 and standard application software.
Some locations feature computers with subject-specific software. It is not possible to install software yourself.
Note
From 01.09.2021 users can only use Adobe products with a personally assigned Adobe account (named user licensing). Accepted are Adobe accounts from the University of Vienna and other universities, private Adobe accounts or other personal Adobe accounts.
- Employees receive their Adobe account of the University of Vienna in the SAM system. Get in touch with your IT representative.
- Students can set up a free Adobe account (user guide) via the software portal AcadCloud.
Use on site
You can use the PCs at the computer rooms with your u:account. After the log-in you can use the online storage space service to access your personal data on the Z: share.
You can print, scan and copy using u:print at all computer rooms.
Please show consideration for other users (fair use):
- Keep the noise down
- Vacate PCs as quickly as possible during busy times
- Leave the workplace clean
Optimising your user profile
Your personal programme settings – the so-called user profile – are stored centrally on a server. They are loaded to your computer when you log-in, and are copied back to the server when you log-out.
Storage space for user profiles is limited to 2 GB by default. You can check how much storage space you are currently using under My u:account.
- Keep your user profile as small as possible. This shortens the time it takes to log in or log out.
- If an error message is displayed while log-out informing you that your server-stored user profile was not fully synchronised, the available storage space may be full. This means that your personal profile cannot be stored on the server.
In this case, please follow the user guide Benutzerprofil optimieren (optimising your user profile).
