Registration, deregistration

Only heads of organisational units or IT representatives can register a share. The service is subject to a charge.

Registering a share

To register a share, the head of the organisational unit or the IT representative has to make an informal request by sending an e-mail to fileservice.zid@univie.ac.at

This request has to include the following information:

  • Names and u:account UserIDs of the requested share administrators
  • Desired share name: maximum of 20 characters, possible characters: a-z, A-Z, 0-9, -,_
  • Cost centre
  • Number of the institute

Every new share will be set up as Tier B storage:

  • Meets the highest standards of performance and reliability.
  • Almost unlimited storage space, no fixed maximum size (quota).
  • At a much lower price than Tier A storage.

Migrating between storage classes

If the performance of the Tier B share does not meet your requirements, you can change to the Tier A storage class:

  • The default maximum value is 250 GB. The default minimum value is 10 GB. Free disk space is checked and adjusted automatically every 5 minutes. If it is lower than 10 GB (default minimum value), the share space will be increased step by step (in steps of 1 GB each) until it reaches its maximum value.
  • A reduction of storage space is only possible by agreement during which the service will be interrupted
  • At a much higher price than Tier B storage.

To migrate between the storage classes, the head of the organisational unit, the IT representative or the share administrator should send an informal request via e-mail to fileservice.zid@univie.ac.at.

For the conversion, the service has to be interrupted. The conversion will take place on an agreed date.

 Note

You can find an overview of the shares and their current storage space which you have been assigned to as an administrator at Administrating the share.
