u:stream Terms of Use

Purpose

The u:stream service of the Vienna University Computer Center at the University of Vienna is a university video management system which can be used to process video and audio files and make them available as an on-demand stream. Users of u:stream can upload existing video/audio files as well as make new recordings. Moreover, selected lecture halls are fitted with equipment for recording and live-streaming events via u:stream.

General conditions

The u:stream service is hosted on servers operated by the Vienna University Computer Center. No data will be transferred to third parties during the processing of livestreams and recordings. Recordings and livestreams are available to the general public as long as no restrictions are placed on the respective video/audio files.

The u:stream service is provided based on the best effort principle. This means that, while the Vienna University Computer Center works to ensure the most reliable service possible via u:stream, it is unable to assume any responsibility for the availability and unlimited accessibility of the service as well as for problem-free distribution of the recordings and livestreams.

It is recommended that users do not share any sensitive data or confidential information in the recordings and livestreams.

Livestreams which are expected to attract more than 1,000 viewers at any one time must be reported in advance to the u:stream support team in order to discuss the best way of organising the livestream.

Unauthorised usage

The service aims to support academic work, in particular teaching, research and communication at the University, both on an internal and external level.

It is not permitted to use u:stream for commercial purposes, for non-academic events or for private purposes.

Content that endangers public order and safety or morality or violates the law is not permitted. The University of Vienna assumes no responsibility for illegal recordings or the saving of such recordings.

All video/audio files uploaded to or made available via u:stream are created with the sole purpose of publishing them as an on-demand stream. It is also permitted that u:stream be used to document one’s own teaching activity. It is not permitted to use u:stream purely as an online storage space.

In case of unauthorised usage, the Vienna University Computer Center reserves the right to withdraw permission to use the u:stream service.

Life cycle of video/audio files

The u:stream service is not for the purpose of archiving recordings over an extended period of time. The Vienna University Computer Center assumes no responsibility for ensuring that video/audio files are available for an unlimited period of time via u:stream.

We recommend that users delete their files from u:stream if they no longer need them. The Vienna University Computer Center reserves the right to automatically delete video/audio files from u:stream after a period of 5 years.
