  • What changes will there be in the business phone service?
    • The currently official mobile phone number in the form +43-664-60277-u:phone extension will be taken out of service. However, it will remain available for (incoming) calls indefinitely and for (receiving) text messages at least until mid-September 2022.

    • The internal phone number in the form +43-664-817-xxxx will become the new official business mobile phone number.

    • There will be one phone number per business mobile phone only.

    • In future, users can decide for themselves whether they want to display their business mobile phone number in u:find or not. To do so, read the user guides on Editing personal data in u:find.

    • The private use of a business mobile phone with the prefix 98 and own invoice (employee supplementary invoice) will no longer be possible.

    • Users who want to continue using the internal number privately can port it to a private contract or to a private prepaid card by 31 August 2022 at the latest. They will then receive a new business mobile phone number from the ZID.

    • Porting the previously official telephone number (format +43-664-60277-u:phone extension) is not possible.

  • Why will there be changes to the business phone service?

The University of Vienna's business mobile phone contract will be reallocated shortly. The future contract will be better tailored to the current communication requirements of the University of Vienna: The use of telephony and text message has changed significantly, and communication via data networks has risen sharply. The new contract now reflects this. The costs are also being optimised in line with the change in usage. In the course of this changeover, some technical and administrative changes have to be implemented.

  • Do I need to change my stationery?

No, the 60277 number remains permanently available. Use your stationery or business cards until they run out.

Tip: Only give your u:phone number +43-1-4277-abcde on printed matter. You can then use the u:phone web client to decide whether calls are to be forwarded to your business phone.

  • I have stored my business phone number with online services. Do I need to change this number?

This is necessary, for example, if the business mobile phone number has been ported to a private contract and the business mobile phone has been given a new number.

A mobile phone number must be stored in many online services. This applies to mobile phone signatures, messengers (iMessage, WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram), online banking or mobile phone parking. The phone number serves as a target for verification codes or TAN text messages or as a method for account recovery in case of password loss. Many two-factor authentication services also offer text message as a method.

It is recommended to change the stored phone number as long as you can still access the previous phone number and thus receive text messages.

You can find user guides on how to Change stored phone numbers.

  • Why are the business phone numbers changing?

So far, all business mobile phones of the University of Vienna have two phone numbers:

    • an official phone number in the format +43-664-60277-u:phone extension
    • an internal phone number in the format +43-664-817-xxxx

The current official business mobile phone numbers of the University of Vienna are so-called corporate numbers. This means that a block of numbers beginning with 60277 plus an individual 5-digit extension are reserved for the University of Vienna. In the event of a change of contract, the reservation of these blocks is no longer possible. In addition, the 10-digit numbers are too long for current communication standards or certain services and therefore often cause problems.

  • Where can I find the internal number of my business phone?

You can find the internal phone number of your business mobile phone via Mein A1 at http://www.a1.net/mein-A1. As of 14 June 2022 the internal phone number will be your new official business mobile phone number.

  • How do I edit the display of my business phone number in u:find?

In future, users will be able to decide for themselves whether they want to display their business mobile phone number in u:find or not. You can find user guides on how to Edit your personal data in u:find.

Contacts and forwarding

/

  • Is there a way to inform all contacts on the busines phone about the new phone number at the same time?

To notify your contacts you can use group text message. Both Android smartphones and iPhones offer this function. Make sure to send text messages instead of MMS (multimedia messages), since MMS cost 50 cents each. Tipp: 1,000 text messages are included in the company mobile tariff. If the contacts can be reached via e-mail, this is a good alternative.

Send group messages with the iPhone: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202724

There are various text messaging apps on Android that all work according to the same principle. The user guides for the Google Messages app can be found here: https://www.makeuseof.com/how-to-send-a-group-text-on-android/

  • Is it still possible to have the internal u:phone numbers redirected to a (business) smartphone?

With OpenScape software you can use u:phone also on your Android or iOS device as well as via browser, for example to set up a call forwarding on the go or to make a phone call.

  • How do I find the business phone numbers of colleagues?

The business phone numbers have been hidden in u:find and can only be entered there again by the users themselves. After the changeover, you can still find the company cell phone number via the contact search in the u:phone web client. You can also reach every work cell phone user via the speed dial function. You can find more information here.

Private use

/

  • What will change for users who also use their business phone privately?

The private use of a business mobile phone with the prefix 98 and own invoice (employee supplementary invoice) will no longer be possible.

If you want to continue using the internal number privately, you can port it to a private contract in your name or to a private prepaid card by 31 October 2022 at the latest. You will then receive a new number from the ZID for your business mobile phone. This is what you have to do:

    1. Decide on an operator to which you want to port the number and on a specific tariff.
    2. Order the porting authorisation using the Service Desk form Übertragung meiner Rufnummer anfragen (Request transfer of my number, in German). This will prove to the operator that you are authorised to use the number.
    3. Visit a shop of the desired operator to conclude the private contract, receive your new private SIM card and arrange the porting. To do this, you will need the porting authorisation and a photo ID. These steps can also be done online. We recommend visiting the shop because there you can have private data stored on the previous SIM card transferred to the new private SIM card in a straightforward manner.

You will get more information via text message:

    • When the porting will take place
    • As soon as the porting is completed
    • The new number of the business mobile phone
  • By when must the porting of the number for further private use be completed?

If you want to continue to use the internal number privately, you can port it to a private contract in your name or to a private prepaid card by 31 October 2022 at the latest. You will then receive a new number from the ZID for your business mobile phone.

  • How do I continue using my internal business phone number privately?

Fill out the service desk form Übertragung meiner Rufnummer anfragen (Request to transfer my phone number, in German). Tell us whether you want to change to an A1 contract or to transfer the internal number to another provider. We will then send you either the transfer form (transferring the number to an A1 contract) or the NÜV information (porting the number to another provider). You can then use this to transfer the internal number to a private contract.

  • What options do I have to continue using my previously privately used internal number for private purposes?

Transferring the phone number to an A1 contract

    • Use the service desk form Übertragung meiner Rufnummer anfragen (Request the transfer of my phone number, in German) and indicate that you want to change to an A1 contract. You will then receive the transfer form from us.
    • Fill in the transfer form and choose one of the listed tariffs
    • Return the completed transfer form to us. We will confirm your details and then send the transfer form to A1.
    • Costs: 20 Euros for the transfer plus 49.90 Euros activation fee; basic fees or service flat rate according to the selected tariff.
    • Commitment: 24 months

Porting the phone number to another operator

    • Use the service desk form Übertragung meiner Rufnummer anfragen (Request the transfer of my phone number, in German) and indicate that you want to change to another provider. You will then receive the NÜV information from us.
    • Register a contract or prepaid card with a mobile operator of your choice. You will receive a SIM card with a temporary number from the provider's number range. Submit the NÜV information to the new provider directly at or after registration. This can be done either in the shop or online.
    • Or: You have already registered a contract or prepaid card with a mobile phone provider before. Use the NÜV information to transfer the number to this contract or prepaid card.
    • Costs: Porting is free of charge. Basic charges or service fee according to the selected tariff.
    • Commitment: Depending on the selected tariff

  • What happens when I change to an A1 contract?

When you switch to an A1 contract, your business phone SIM card becomes your private SIM card. You will receive a new business phone SIM card from us with a new business phone number in the form +43-664-817-abcd. The five-digit u:phone extension for speed dial use and all other service phone tariff details and functions remain unchanged.

    Category: Private use
  • What happens when porting to another provider?

After you have received the NÜV information from us, submit this document to your new provider directly at or after registration. This can be done either in the shop or online. The provider checks the accuracy of the document. You also authorise the new provider to transfer the telephone number on your behalf. This information will be checked with A1 by your new provider.

After successful verification, you will receive a date for the number transfer. Please be sure to inform us of this date.

As a rule, the porting will take place within 2-5 working days. Until the porting takes place, you will receive a SIM card with a temporary number from the number range of the provider. On the day of the number porting, the temporary number of your new SIM card will be replaced by the number you have taken with you. This usually takes place in the early hours of the morning. You will receive a text message or an e-mail from your new provider.

Your previous business phone SIM card will be temporarily inactive at this moment and manually reactivated by the business phone team with a new business phone number in the form +43-664-817-abcd. For this reason, it is important to inform us of the date for the number transfer. The five-digit u:phone extension for speed dial use as well as all other business mobile phone tariff details and functions remain unchanged.
