Selecting a group

This user guide helps space administrators to select groups to assign permissions to in their u:wiki space.

Understanding the basics

As the administrator of a u:wiki space, you can assign and manage read and write permissions for the entire space as well as for individual pages and their subpages. These rights can be assigned individually, i.e. for individual users, as well as for specific groups.

There are 3 types of groups available in u:wiki:

Role groups

Role groups contain all members of the University of Vienna who hold the respective role. All members of the University of Vienna are automatically assigned to these groups and removed again when they leave the University of Vienna. The groups therefore represent the current data status. Individuals can belong to several groups at the same time:

  • employee@univie.ac.at: all employees of the University of Vienna
  • faculty@univie.ac.at: academic staff of the University of Vienna
  • staff@univie.ac.at: administrative staff of the University of Vienna
  • student@univie.ac.at: all active students of the University of Vienna
  • affiliate@univie.ac.at: external staff of the University of Vienna
  • member@univie.ac.at: all login-authorised persons including u:accounts for guests

To authorise a role group for a space or a page in u:wiki, enter the name as shown in the list and click on Add.

Organisational groups

Organisational groups contain all members of the respective organisational unit or subunit. These persons are automatically assigned to the group when they join and removed again when they leave the organisational unit. Organisational groups therefore represent the current data status.

To authorise an organisational unit as a group for a space or page in u:wiki, first open the detailed view of the desired organisational unit or subunit in u:find via the Organisation tab. Note the ID found in the URL and add the prefix A_ to the ID.

Example: The ID of the Zentraler Informatikdienst (ZID) is 140.

To authorise all members of the ZID, enter A_140. If several suggestions are automatically displayed, select the correct one and click Add.

Space groups

Space groups are configured individually by space administrators in u:wiki. Use the user guide Creating a space group. 

To authorise a space group for a space or a page in u:wiki, enter the group name you have chosen and click on Add.
