Cloud
Both professionally and privately, we have an increasing number of devices, especially mobile devices, on which we use data and applications. Documents, photos, videos, music and software should always be available on all devices. We want to share and edit our content with others.
This is made possible by the cloud. This IT infrastructure, also known as the ‘data cloud’, enables access to a pool of IT resources such as storage space and software, but also databases, infrastructure or computing power via a computer network. Data and applications are then no longer stored locally on one device, but on a remote server. The cloud is accessed via client software, browsers or apps.
Cloud strategy
The University of Vienna is aware of the growing importance of cloud services due to the advancing digitalisation and has therefore developed a cloud strategy.
Tutorials (in German)
Employees can learn more about protection of data privacy and cloud systems in free webinars, which take place several times each semester.

Cloud models
Clouds differ in who provides the cloud and who can access it.

Advantages of the cloud
There are many reasons why the cloud is attractive to users and businesses, including easy and fast access to data and services.

Public cloud risks
The risks associated with using a public cloud also depend on the provider of that cloud. These risks include data protection and data security and should be carefully considered.

Cloud service models
Various IT resources can be made available in clouds. The service models specify which IT resources are involved.
