Setting up Exchange in Android

This user guide will help you, as an employee, set up the University of Vienna’s Exchange service on your Android device.

You will then be able to manage your university e-mails, calendars, and contacts using your Android device.

Requirement

A valid, initially set up Exchange account at the University of Vienna.

  1. Settings – search for Accounts – Add account – Exchange
  2. Enter e-mail address – Set up manually – enter u:account password, Domain\Username: d\u:account UserID, Server: owa.univie.ac.at
  3. Open Gmail app – Menu – Settings – select Exchange e-mail address entry – enter name and signature, select elements

Detailed user guide

1. Adding account

  1. Open the Settings ⚙ on your Android device.
  2. Search for Accounts and select the respective entry (e.g. Manage accounts, Passwords, passkeys and accounts or similar).
  3. Select Add account.
  4. Select the option Exchange.

2. Setting up account

  1. Enter your e-mail address of the University of Vienna:
    firstname.lastname@univie.ac.at (example: jamie.doe@univie.ac.at)
  2. Tap Set up manually.

Enter the following data:

  • Password: your u:account password
  • Domain\Username: d\UserID (example: d\doejamie99)
  • Server: owa.univie.ac.at

Confirm with Next.

In the following window, tap Done to complete the basic setup.

3. Configure additional settings

  1. Open the Gmail app.
  2. Tap the menu icon ☰ at the top left next to the search field.
  3. Select Settings ⚙ at the bottom.
  4. Select the entry that shows your Exchange e-mail address.

Change the following entries:

  • Your name: your name
  • Mobile signature: Remove the default Gmail advertisement there. You can also specify your e-mail signature instead.

In addition, you can select which items (e-mails, contacts, calendars) you want to manage on your device with the Exchange account.
