Installing u:print on Windows 11
Notes
- A pre-built software package is available for printing via centrally managed PCs. If necessary, please contact your IT representative.
- u:print is already installed on all PCs in the computer rooms.
- It is not possible to install u:print on Windows 11 Home.
Requirements
- A Canon printer driver version [Windows 32-bit & 64-bit] Generic Plus UFR II Printer Driver v3.12 or later
- You have administrator rights on your device (e.g. PC, laptop)
- Your device is connected to the university data network or access is via VPN
- Click on the Windows icon – search for Credential Manager – Open – Windows Credentials – Add a Windows credential – Internet or network address:
uprint.univie.ac.at,Username: u\u:account UserID, Password: u:account password – OK - Download printer driver version [Windows 32-bit & 64-bit] Generic Plus UFR II Printer Driver v3.12 or later – double-click the file
- Click on the Windows icon – Search for Printers & scanners – Open – Add device – Add a new device manually – Select a shared printer by name, enter the following:
\\uprint.univie.ac.at\FollowMe(for students) or\\uprint.univie.ac.at\staff(for employees) – Next – OK – Have Disk... – Browse... – Navigate to the folder where the printer driver is located (x64 folder) – Select driver – Next – Finish
2. Downloading printer driver
- Download a printer driver version [Windows 32-bit & 64-bit] Generic Plus UFR II Printer Driver v3.12 or later from the Canon website.
- Execute the downloaded file by double-clicking on it.
- You will be notified that no driver could be found. Confirm with OK.
- The Add Printer Wizard window will open. Click on the Have Disk... button.
- If the window does not open or other problems occur, follow the instructions Troubleshooting: Edit group policy.
- Click on the Browse... button and navigate to the folder where the previously saved printer driver is located (usually under Downloads – GPlus_UFRII_Driver_V330_32_64_00 – x64 – Driver). Select the driver; there should only be one listed.
- Click on Next.
- Click on Finish.
The default setting after installation is colour printing.
Note
If you wish to change your u:account password or change the u:account from which you print on this device, you must adjust the data for the entry uprint.univie.ac.at in the Windows credentials accordingly. Then restart your device.
When using the printer, you will need to re-enter your data. When entering your user name, please ensure that you use the correct spelling with a preceding u\.
Troubleshooting: Edit group policy
- Click on the Windows icon – search for Edit group policy – Open – Computer Configuration – Administrative Templates – Printers – Configure RPC connection settings
- Enabled – In the drop-down menu Protocol to use for outgoing RPC connections, select the entry RPC over named pipes – OK
- In Credential Management, check the Windows credentials for
uprint.univie.ac.atagain, delete them and set them up again (user guide Installing u:print)
Detailed user guide
If you encounter problems with the u:print installation or printing, you can try editing the Windows 11 group policy.
- Click on the Windows icon at the bottom left of the taskbar.
- Enter Edit group policy in the search field and click on Open.
- A new window will open. Click on the Computer Configuration entry in the menu on the left.
- Click on the Administrative Templates entry.
- Click on the entry Printers.
- Click on the entry Configure RPC connection settings on the right.
If necessary, check the Windows credentials for uprint.univie.ac.at again in the Credential Manager. Delete them and set them up again. To do this, follow the user guide Installing u:print again.
