Accessing u:cloud with locally installed software

This user guide helps you to access u:cloud with a locally installed software. On: 

Notes

  • The u:cloud software is updated automatically on centrally managed PCs.
  • On self-managed PCs, you will be notified by the software that an update is available. Follow the software instructions to install the update.

Windows: Installing u:cloud software

Requirement

A device with operating system Windows 10 or newer. To the basic user guide Finding out your operating system version.

  1. Download software – execute file with double-click
  2. Follow installation assistant – do not restart PC – software starts automatically
  3. Log into u:cloud

1. Downloading u:cloud software

  1. Download the software: u:cloud software (desktop, laptop)
  2. Execute the downloaded file by double-clicking on it. 

2. Installing u:cloud software

  1. The installation assistant opens. Click Next.
  2. In the Custom Setup window click Next.
  1. Click Install to start the installation.
  2. Click Finish.
  3. At the end of the installation process, you will be prompted to restart the PC. Click No.

As soon as the installation is complete, the software will start automatically.

macOS: Installing u:cloud software

Requirement

A device with operating system macOS 10.13 or newer. To the basic user guide Finding out your operating system version. 

  1. Download software – execute file with double-click
  2. Follow installation assistant – Move to Trash – software starts automatically
  3. Log into u:cloud

Detailed user guide

1. Downloading u:cloud software

  1. Download the software: u:cloud software (desktop, laptop)
  2. Execute the downloaded file by double-clicking on it.

2. Installing u:cloud software

  1. The installation assistant opens. Click Continue.
  2. Click Install to start the installation.
  3. Enter the user name and password of your local MacBook or iMac account. Confirm with Install Software. 
  1. Click Close.
  2. You will be asked whether the installation program should be deleted. Click Move to Trash.
  3. As soon as the installation is complete, the software starts automatically.
  4. Follow the next step: Logging into u:cloud

Linux: Installing u:cloud software

  1. Download the software (AppImage): u:cloud software (desktop, laptop)
  2. Copy the AppImage to a suitable location.
  3. Make the AppImage executable.
  4. Start the AppImage.

Logging into u:cloud

Note

This user guide contains Windows screenshots. The Linux and macOS version differs minimally.

  1. Log in – fill in u:account UserID, u:account passwort – Grant access – Account connected – close website – software connects in the background, do not close software
  2. Set synchronisation – Connect

Detailed user guide

1. Connecting account

  1. A browser window opens for the login. Click Log in.
  2. You will be automatically redirected to the Weblogin of the University of Vienna. Log in with the UserID of your u:account (example: doejamie99) and the corresponding password.
  3. Click Grant access to allow the software to access u:cloud.
  4. The confirmation Account connected is shown. You can close the website.
  5. The software connects automatically in the background, this may take a few minutes. Do not close the software. 
Note

  1. If Access forbidden appears, close the browser window.
  2. Click Reopen Browser.
  3. Repeat the login process and click Grant access. 

2. Setting up synchronisation

  1. When you are setting up the u:cloud software on your device for the first time, you can choose whether you want to synchronise all your u:cloud data or just individual files. Select the desired option.
  2. Then click on Connect.
